I used to love this picture. It was taken during a retreat I hosted called “Women, Wine, and WHY.” It was such a special event.

The picture is almost a decade old now and when I grabbed it for this page I saw for the first time the tired in it— the tired in me. The trying trying trying look in my eyes.

I can’t ever remember a time when I wasn’t trying, a time when being was enough. A time when for more than a fleeting moment being human felt peaceful.

I wonder sometimes if this new project is more trying. I wonder if I’ll ever settle into this human body with the kind of acceptance and presence that other humans seem to have. I am a person who always wants more. For better or for worse, it is all I have ever known.

more freedom. more resources. more compassion. more change.

Pissed off and Purposeful comes in the wake of a wave of democrats, like myself, fighting for change and feeling blinded by hope, then crashing with disappointment.

In our grieving we are angry, but our anger is fueled by love and I believe that matters. I believe that the combination of our rage and our grief and our love is the very thing that can save us.

My desire has led me down many paths in my 40 and a half decades. From the birth world, to the wellness world, to the coaching world… I have sat with people in the depths of their pain and held on to the lights that guided their path. Most recently my continued work in after abortion care helped me see perspectives and places I never imagined I’d have the honor of seeing. But it wasn’t until the 2024 election of Donald Trump, when my daughter gave me permission to share the experience of her rape, that I really saw how much I still have to say and how many more people have equally important and different stories to share.

We are sad. We are mad. And we are RISING!

I am a human who has and will always HOLD SPACE FOR GROWTH: mine, your, ours.

Pissed off and Purposeful is a movement from which we get to show others what is possible. In our determination we hope to be a lighthouse for change.
