With written and spoken word as our fertilizer,
together may we grow.
In a World Without Doors
Oops… I did it again: impulse, got the best of me. A snap decision that left me fumbling in frustration. A seemingly routine mistake… or not…
The impact of our nothing on the world.
I am a writer. Some days I will write nothing and nothing will change. Some days I will write nothing and nothing will change. Both are real and true and both matter.
When your morals meet a match.
Sadly our nation has become numb to seemingly unprovoked crime. Innocent children gunned down by mentally deranged strangers. Religious congregations, and concert goers taking bullets out of the blue. The gun violence we’ve become accustomed to isn’t as targeted as this was. There was something clarifying about the focus of this attack that struck a different nerve.
I’m not that smart. And it makes me one of the smartest people I know.
This morning someone I haven’t spoken to in a decade started a text message to me with the words “you are ignorant.” It was in regards to a current supreme court case regarding trans rights. I’m not gonna lie she did go on to say why she thought my viewpoint was ignorant so there’s a possibility she wasn’t attacking my entire identity, but for the purposes of this piece the point is that reading those words was a full body triggering experience for the part of me that doesn’t believe I am smart.
Five out of ten voters emboldened our daughters’ rapists.
It’s been almost a full month since election day. Every presidential vote cast was for a political, social, and global leader. A simple action with powerful consequences. The candidate we chose is a convicted criminal, held liable for sexual assault, and accused of numerous other legal and moral crimes against humanity. Thanks to both our nation’s active and absent voters, the United States of America is likely facing some of the hardest times those of us living have ever seen. Every day it sinks in a little more— like a slow drip punishment, and every human who believes rape is immoral will suffer.
What does your to do list have to teach you?
What could be more real and true in the life of a human than a to-do list. It screams vulnerability, “This is who I am. This is what I do. This is how I show up to the world.”
Will you raise him right?
I know that this assault, all the assaults, aren’t just about them, they are about us. They are about the lessons we teach, the behavior we accept, the influence we have, the boys we raise. Maybe that’s the hardest part to accept, that we can’t raise all the boys to be good ones.
In which direction are you evolving?
Two notable things happened this morning. The first was when I dared to look at Nancy Mace’s instagram page. The second was when I saw the quote: “Unfortunately some people are not put here to evolve. They are put here to remind you what it looks like if you don’t.” ~Unknown
Did you vote for my daughter or her rapist?
On November 5th 2024, our democracy didn’t just elect a president, we elected a leader, and that leader is not only a convicted criminal, he has been held liable for sexual assault.
